It's always nice to see an article, especially one with significant statistics, displaying local newspapers still going strong. This one is from Mashable, and cites research from the Pew Internet and American Life Project, that states that print and online local newspapers are still the top source of information for 11 of 16 news categories. 

As I'm currently working on research for an article in the spring about local newspapers and their less-than-stellar understanding of digital media, this type of research from Pew shines light on the possibilities for local newspapers. If they had a more digitally-focused mindset, they can appease readers who still strive for local news. No one really wants to read blogs constantly (says the blogger), but there is no other appropriate means for local, realtime information.

So, the new look of the blog wasn't actually my original attention when I started redesigning it over the summer, but I did decide last week that using Posterous to replace my blogging platform in the time being would allow me to post more frequently while I'm busy doing other work-related projects. Oh, and due to my student teaching this semester, I do realize that was a run-on sentence. My bad.
